Some Goals for 2016

I have a bad habit of reading multiple books at a time. Or maybe I'm just bad at finishing the book I'm currently reading before starting a new book? I think I can quite easily contribute this to my ADD.

A perfect example, off the top of my head I am currently reading: "Lean In", "Life in Motion", "Eldest", "The 36 Hour Day", "Sit! Stay! Speak!", "The Inspired Room", "Magic Kingdom For Sale Sold", "The Deathly Hallows". I am sure there are more, but it's been so long, that I can't remember which books they are, or where in the book I stopped at.

I have at least 3-4 more books in my 'want to read' pile. I am proud of myself, though. Instead of starting anymore books, I have actually been working on finishing books. I finished "Dashing Through the Snow" by Debbie Macomber, and am currently, actively, reading "Life in Motion" by Misty Copeland.

I am not sure which book I will proceed to finish after this one, it will most likely depend on my mood. Maybe I should aim for one of the fiction books next. Switching between non-fiction and fiction appeals to my OCD/anal-retentive tendencies.

Fiction books I have started reading:
  • Eldest
  • The Deathly Hallows
  • Sit! Stay! Speak!
  • Magic Kingdom for Sale - Sold!
  • Wuthering Heights (was a book I was reading in 10th grade for my English Literature class)
Non-fiction books I have started reading:
  • Life in Motion (currently reading)
  • Lean In
  • The 36 Hour Day
  • The Inspired Room

Neglecting the blog

Woah, yep, I've definitely been neglecting this.  Lots of stuff has happened since the last time I posted anything here.

Work
I'm now working at Microsoft!  I'm working for the Microsoft Vendor HCL America (via C2S Technologies).  Still waiting to get paid, though.

Been attending a Python meetup group as regularly as possible.  It's a great way to network.  I have met lots of people who work with Python.

Pets
My cat, Prue, passed away in August.  I miss her.  She was a little over 14 years old.

Earlier this summer Ruby got in a fight with a raccoon.  I'm of the opinion that Ruby was protecting her older brother, Angel (our black cat).  Thankfully, she won that fight, and my brother had to bury the large raccoon.  Poor Ruby was covered in scratches.  To clean them I had to first give her a bath, and then work on putting Neosporin on them.
Ruby managed to tear her dew claw, then she chewed it off, since it was bothering her.  It's now growing back.

Dancing
I've started taking ballet classes, more regularly, with a friend.  We've been attending the Thursday evening open Beginning/Intermediate ballet class at Pacific Northwest Ballet School in Bellevue.

Organization
I've had a daily planner since 6th grade, or at least, whenever school started giving us daily planners at the beginning of the school year. The past couple of years, since I haven't been going to school full-time, I have had a bit of a difficult time finding a decent planner.  Back in March one of the gals in my Miche group (Bag Fashion Force Family) had her planner out, and I adored it!  She had an Erin Condren Life Planner.  Once I started researching that, I discovered that the planner was $50-$75.  But one of the first sites that I found in my research was a gal reviewing and comparing/contrasting the Erin Condren Life Planner vs. the Plum Paper Planner.  I finally ordered a Plum Paper Planner.  According to UPS and USPS tracking my planner has arrived.  I'm super excited to go home and open it up for the first time.  It will be so nice having a planner that already has the holidays listed in it.

Today at work, more cupcakes!

Vanity

Getting older comes with some annoyances.  I no longer can get away with doing sets of crunches every day for a week to get my waist back down to 25", it takes a lot more effort than that.  I feel like I started falling apart around the age of 26.  The scale is no longer my friend, but then again, it hasn't been my friend since I started having my health issues.

Catching Up

I didn't realize it had been so long since the last time I posted anything.  A lot has happened since April.

At the end of July I lost my beloved Rocko to cancer.  I was with him when he passed.  I was thankful to the veterinarian, they even sent us a bereavement card.
In October we lost Merlin.  I wasn't there, I wish I had been with him.

At the end of July I finally started working.  I felt that was a good thing, emotionally.  It helped keep my mind off of losing Rocko, and Merlin's deteriorating state.  I worked at 3 different locations over the course of 3 days.  At the end of that I got called in for an interview in Bellevue.  Was offered the position, and what was a 2 month contract extended from August through Mid-January.

I've been trying to play catch up with my e-mails, reading, blogging, etc.  I'll try and post more specifically on the loss of my Border Collies sometime in the future.

This past week the whole family has been dealing with colds.  Thankfully, this time around, I really haven't been coughing.
